We’re on our phones almost 24/7, reviewing emails, texting, calling, Facebooking, browsing Amazon and everything else in between. So it’s only logical that your marketing plan would include a mobile aspect – right?
How can you use mobile to grow your email list? Here are two great tools you can use with Constant Contact, our go-to platform for email marketing:
Text to Join:
This is one of the sign up tools that comes with your Constant Contact account and it’s one of our favorites for email sign up.Using their mobile phone, prospects can quickly add themselves to your email list by texting a unique key word to a number. Once they send the text, they will get an immediate message back asking for their email address. After they provide the email address, they will get a thank message (this message is also a great opportunity to give a special discount or prize.)
Why we love this so much? Folks enter their own email address which eliminates data entry work at your end, plus any spelling errors in the email address. They will automatically be added to the Constant Contact list you choose. These will be highly motivated subscribers since they took the initiative to add themselves to your list.
Scan to Join:
This tool allows prospects to join your email list by scanning a QR code. Once they scan the code, they’ll get a message that asks for their email address which is magically added to the Constant Contact list you choose. No fuss or muss.
Now we know what you’re thinking, QR codes are passé. They are not used by everyone, but it’s a great tool for tradeshows and in some retail environments where consumers are used to scanning codes to get a discount.
So now that you’ve got a way to get folks to sign up, how do you promote it?
Signage: Let folks know how they can join your list by creating signage for all your points of contact with your customers and prospects:
- Tent cards for tables and counters
- Window clings for store fronts
- Posters for tradeshows and events
- On business cards for networking opportunities
Offer Incentives: Sometimes people need to be enticed to share their email (we’ve all been there!). Offer an automatic discount, promo code, free item or enter them in a raffle to win an prize.
Ask yourself: would I give my email for this? (If it’s free chocolate the answer is always yes!) If they’re in your store or at an event, an immediate incentive works best.
- At point of sale, an immediate discount on their purchase: Get 10% off today’s purchase when you text to join our list! (The thank you message displays the discount and they just need to show you their phone to get it).
- At an event or tradeshow, they can text to join a sweepstakes for a prize given out at the event.
- At a restaurant, they can get a free dessert or appetizer if they join the list on the spot.
You Don’t Need an App: Apps are great, but you don’t always need an app to leverage mobile marketing. Having a mobile-friendly website and emails, and options to opt-in to your lists via mobile are sometimes all you need in order to reach your marketing goals.
But the most important tip we can offer is – make it simple! If people can easily find where and how to sign up, chances are they will.
